Learn about the exciting world of ham radio! You never know who you will meet: nurses in Nepal, astronauts on the ISS, Girl Scouts in Illinois, airline pilots crossing the oceans, or yachts cruising the South Pacific ... they are all on the airwaves! It's all in the world of ham radio! Getting involved is easy! We teach classes and give exams for licenses. Just click on the Get Started item in the menu above, then click on other items in that menu group and you will learn all about how to get started. The most important thing you might want to do is to come to our club meetings, meet other hams, and have them show you the ropes and introduce you to the hobby. We meet on the third Monday of every month. Click here to get to the club calendar, then click on the club meeting entry and get all the details about when and where we meet. We operate repeaters in Central Alabama so that we can talk over long distances just using handheld radios. Click here for a list of current repeaters operating in our area. We have several nets to pass traffic and to test our equipment. Some nets are local, some are statewide. You can listen in or participate. Click here for a list of current nets in our area. To keep our radio skills sharp, we have fox hunts where we locate hidden transmitters. It is a great deal of fun and exciting competition. Click here to go to our fox hunt page. Once a year we have the Montgomery Hamfest at the Alcazar Shrine Temple. It is a trade show, a flea market, and a convention with presentations. It is a great place to explore new equipment or pick up used electronics. Click here for Hamfest information. Come and join us! |
